Ceremonial Color Guard
(Please fill out contact form to request a honor guard or contact our Honor Guard Captain John Hernandez Jr., at 559-244-1972.)
Post 4's color guard is made up of a "Color Sergeant" carrying the National Colors and serves as the unit commander, a unit or command "Color Bearer", and two "Color Escorts" carrying rifles. If multiple colors are carried, additional color bearers may be needed.
If posting of the colors is needed, sponsoring organization should provide colors that will remain after the color guard is dismissed.
In the military of the United States, the color guard (where the word color is referring to the national flag) carries the national colors and other flags appropriate to its position in the chain of command. Typically these include a unit flag and/or a departmental flag. In addition to the flag bearers, who are positioned in the center of the color guard, there are two or more individuals who carry rifles and or sabres. This is a symbol that the flag (and its nation) will always be protected.
Honor Guard
(Please fill out contact form to request a honor guard or contact our Honor Guard Captain John Hernandez Jr., at 559-244-1972.)
Post 4's honor guard is made up of a "Honor Sergeant" and serves as the unit commander, a unit or command Honor Guard Rifle Team carrying rifles for rifle salute. If the folding of the colors is needed, two additional Honor Guard color bearers will present the colors, fold the colors and present folded colors to the family of the deceased, with shells from the rifle salute encased.
The primary purpose for the Honor Guard is to provide funeral honors for fallen comrades.
Difference between a color guard and honor guard: A color Color Guard (CG) carries and handles "the colors" for ceremonies such as conferences, sports events, parades, etc. An Honor Guard (HG) carries and handles "the colors" for events dedicated to individuals such as funerals & memorials, also providing a three volley salute to the deceased being honored.
